New Mangalore Port Trust

Bosch Energy and Building Solutions has leveraged its strong design and engineering expertise in realizing the 4 MW ground-mounted solar power plant for the New Mangalore Port Trust. The project contributes to the long-term self-generation of power and also to the reduction of CO2 emissions to the tune of 4,100 tonnes per year. The solar power plant also acts as the energy gateway for the port.

Achieving grid neutrality for an entire airport

Constructed on a total land of 50 acres, the CIAL solar plant is the single largest solar project to be constructed in an airport in India. Commissioned within a timeframe of 5 months, it houses 46,150 solar panels to generate approximately 50,000 units of electricity daily.

The aim of the project was to reduce the dependence on grid power and switch over to green power. Bosch had the privilege of partnering with Cochin Airport to effectively realize this initiative. The partnership with Cochin Airport further developed with the 2.4 MW extension to the existing solar plant and an additional 11 MW solar installation on ground and over a canal.

Vision for sustainability turned into reality

In their journey towards sustainability, Bosch partnered with Siemens to realize a 2.2 MW solar plant on their factory rooftop in Kalwa, Mumbai. The solar plant was built with stringent EHS measures to install the components on the factory rooftop before the monsoons, without disturbing the ongoing operations of the factory. The project is estimated to generate close to 3 million units of electricity annualy.

A first of its kind in India, the 1 MW solar project was built on Maruti Suzuki’s rain water harvesting area at their Manesar plant. The project was aimed at providing renewable power generation along with water conservation. The uniqueness of this project lies in its super structure design that is designed to sustain high wind speeds. The plant serves as a canopy over the rainwater harvesting area and prevents the harvested water from evaporation. The water in turn keeps the solar panels cool and increases the power generation efficiency.

Energy matters to us like life matters to them

At Narayana Hrudayalaya, the solution from Bosch gives savings of 12% and delivers a payback of 2.15 years. The implementation will provide annual savings of around 0.4 Mio units of energy and an annual reduction of 312 MT of CO2 emissions. Additional benefits include availability of real-time energy reports.

Realizing energy savings in the component washing process

The Integrated Heating and Cooling Solution by Bosch substitutes electrical heaters in the component washing process with air source heat pumps. The core of the solution lies in the design of the customized heat exchanger fitted with the heat pumps. Heat pumps provide at least 2 times higher efficiency than standard electric heaters. After implementation, the solution has demonstrated close to 57% energy cost savings in the process.

Reducing inefficiencies to cut down excess energy consumption

Generating value for the secondary steel sector

Low combustion efficiency and high coal consumption are persistent issues in steel re-rolling mills. The lack of own engineering capacity and solutions centred around readily available products failed to cut down high furnace emissions and increase energy efficiency. Bosch partnered with Shivagrico and recovered the heat from exhaust gases using the Waste Heat Recovery Solution. The solution also focused on pressure balancing and modulation of air-fuel ratio, which saved fuel cost by 20% in the process. Shivagrico also benefited from lower scaling losses arising from the solution implementation.

Innovative solutions for real cost savings

Triton Valves, a leading valve manufacturer, faced problems of air bidding in platens, uneven distribution of temperature profile and water hammering problem in the condensate line. Bosch experts redesigned the usage of steam by replacing it with pressurized hot water distribution system, to eliminate losses associated with the distribution line and steam traps. After implementation, the solution was successful in realizing close to 25% energy cost savings.
